Concoction

There was a lot of progress on our house this week, but before I go into that I want to show you Jake's "concoction" - it is a homemade base he likes to put on wood as part of the staining process (it looks best on rough cut lumber). It gives it an aged look. He puts it on the wood and it turns the wood black. Then he sands some of it off. The concoction gets in the deep saw marks so when he sands it some of it stays black. After sanding you put on your stain. We did that to the four posts that are in front of our house.

Here you can see the posts with the concoction. The post in the middle has been sanded. You can also get a good look at our front deck - love it!

Here is a finished post with stain. Turns out pretty nice wouldn't you say?

Here is a crappy picture of our nice cabinets and wood floor. The floor is super dirty with construction dirt, so it is hard to see the true color of it. I love the color of the floor and I really love the cabinets!

Jake and Blaine working hard on the box. This is where the wood burning stove will go. Jake is also going to put the slate tiles on the walls, behind the stove.

The wood floors and the posts are beautiful. I can just see you curled up in front of the wood stove on a cold, snowy Montana winter day.
