Coming To The End Of The Road

We decided to put up a few more pictures showing the progress of our house. It's officially done now and we are in the cleaning up stage. If everything continues to go well, it looks like we will be closing by the end of the week. We will post more pictures later this week as more of the house gets cleaned.

The house with all the siding and trim. All that is left is a little more staining and the garage door. The garage door is coming Tuesday.

Concoction

There was a lot of progress on our house this week, but before I go into that I want to show you Jake's "concoction" - it is a homemade base he likes to put on wood as part of the staining process (it looks best on rough cut lumber). It gives it an aged look. He puts it on the wood and it turns the wood black. Then he sands some of it off. The concoction gets in the deep saw marks so when he sands it some of it stays black. After sanding you put on your stain. We did that to the four posts that are in front of our house.

Here you can see the posts with the concoction. The post in the middle has been sanded. You can also get a good look at our front deck - love it!

Here is a finished post with stain. Turns out pretty nice wouldn't you say?

Here is a crappy picture of our nice cabinets and wood floor. The floor is super dirty with construction dirt, so it is hard to see the true color of it. I love the color of the floor and I really love the cabinets!

Jake and Blaine working hard on the box. This is where the wood burning stove will go. Jake is also going to put the slate tiles on the walls, behind the stove.

Cupcakes

Sierra and I decided to make cupcakes today. We baked them earlier today and waited until after dinner to have fun with the family to decorate. It was fun. Of course the best part was eating them!

Hands and Feet

Sierra was showing me how she can trace her hands and feet. She looked so cute standing there tracing her feet. If you look closely at the picture below (her feet) you can see the polka dots. I think the dots are suppose to be on the toe nails. When Megan painted Sierra's fingernails last (one of Sierra's favorite "Megan" things to do), Megan put dots on her nails, so of course her feet and hands needed dots too.

House Update

Once again we took our weekend trip up to see the house. It was a super cold visit. It was about 4 degrees with wind. The girls and I didn't stay long. Jake had to do some work - but he said he wasn't cold - whatever! I have been excited all week to see it. I get more excited every day, and I think, how could I be any more excited - then tomorrow comes and I am even more excited than yesterday. I can't wait!
This week our electrical and plumbing were put in, along with a shingled roof. Jake and Jason (the guy he works with) put up the wood trim around the house and they also put up two of the four posts out front. They also put in our chimney - the wood burning stove will be delivered Monday! Insulation on Monday and Sheetrock on Wednesday - yay! Hopefully next weekend we will have a warm weekend visit.

Our tubs were put in this week.

Two Big Girls

We have two new big girls in our house. Sierra has upgraded to a twin bed, and Maddie is now in the toddler bed.

The new bed that Jake built.

We decided that when we move, we don't want to set the crib back up - which meant that Sierra needed a new bed - so that Maddie can have the toddler bed. We have my old twin bed and it is set up in our extra bedroom, and we were originally going to use that for Sierra, but we did some measuring and realized that the frame for that bed was a little too long for the spot that I want Sierra's bed in her new room. So, Jake got started right away making Sierra a new bed. He found some old posts in his pile of wood and some extra sheeting for the headboard. I think he bought the wood he used for the trim. The sheeting was already stained the orangy color and he bought some stain for the posts and trim. He stained them the same color, but because they are different types of wood, so the colors turned out different. I love the three different colors of the bed. Sierra LOVES her new bed. I took Sierra shopping today for a new quilt to go on top. Their new room will be purple, so I tried to keep her away from the pinks. Maddie on the other hand is having a bit of a hard time adjusting to her new bed. She likes it, and she likes being a big girl, but sometimes has a hard time going to bed. She is getting a little better every day.

Sierra lovin her new bed. :)

More House

I went up to see the house today and take pictures to post, but I figured I would first post a cute picture of the girls. I always feel like I need to put up more cute pictures of the girls - so here you go. :)

The house is coming along nicely. When I went up there today they were getting ready to put up the 4 posts that support the big beam in the front. They put up the dormer yesterday (the big triangle in the center of the roof), so I was very anxious to go see it. I wasn't sure if I would like it better with the dormer because I really liked it without, but I like it. It definitely adds dimension. I think the plumbers/tinners, and electricians will be in next week - after that is Sheetrock - yay! I am really excited to have heat. Usually when we go up to see the house, we end up hanging out in the vacant house next door. The "green house" as Sierra calls it (it has green siding - very original) was just finished about a month ago and was waiting to be sold. It has heat - and it is very nice to be able to hang out there and daydream about our house (because we have the exact layout). The green house sold yesterday, just in time, because we will have heat in our house soon. I think Sierra will miss going to the green house - today when we went to see our house, Sierra got mad because she didn't want to see our new house, she wanted to go in the green house. We did end up going over there to use the potty, and warm up a little - so Sierra got her wish.

Home Sweet Home

Our house is pretty much all framed up. I went up this morning to take some pictures while we had a break in the weather (in between storms). They are planning on having the roof sheeted by the end of the day today. The picture of the house is obviously without the garage. They are waiting to get the concrete slab poured first before building the garage. It is exciting to see some progress. They didn't work on the house for a few weeks because it was too cold (day after day of negative degree temperatures), but the weather has warmed up and they got her built. Yay!

This is looking at the kitchen and kitchen window. The space to the right will be the sliding glass door off of the dining area. The room to the left on the other side of the wall is the girls room.

This is part of the living room. The big window is our front window. Our wood burning stove will in the corner next to the window. The room on the other side of the wall is the master bedroom.
